This immature Bald Eagle was perched, scanning the lake shore for fish a couple of days ago. It takes five years for a Bald Eagle to attain the bright white head and tail, bright yellow eyes, beak and talons and overall dark plumage of a fully mature adult. The bird in the above photo appears to be in its second year. Note the brown eye. Until the salmon arrive in full force, eagle sightings are sporadic around Chignik Lake, but from summer through fall, multiple sightings are daily events.
