  1. Very interesting. When I was in high school I had a girl friend named Margaret Gafney. She had very light skin and red hair. Her parents and three brothers called her Magpie.

  2. Thanks for the notes Mary. I saw a lot of these red elderberries around the places we visited in Montana. They seem to be pretty common out west from Northern California on up. I’m always looking for black (dark purple) elderberries, which we have back east and which make excellent pies and jams.
    I imagine Valdez is beautiful now.
